Tournament Rules

 

I. Leagues that are eligible

  * Premier Baseball League

  * Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL)

  * Sunset Baseball League (SBL)

  * Western Baseball Association

  * Beach Cities Collegiate Baseball League

  * Metro League

  * LABC League

II. Teams that are eligible

   a. The league champion from the leagues in the tournament will be eligible to play in the Best of the West tournament

   b. The league commissioner from each league, can replace the league champ with either the second place team or the third place team (in this order) if the team that won the championship can’t make it

   c. To get to 8 teams the commissioners will nominate the “next best team” and 2 teams will be invited and be eligible to play in the tournament

III. Player eligibility

   a. Player has to be between 18 and 25 years of age on the day of the tournament starts

   b. Attending college

   c. Ex-professional baseball player are eligible

   d. If team that qualifies has players leaving the team or can’t play, the team can add up to (8) players by inviting them from within the league they’re in

   e. If any player is added, they need to be dressed in the same uniform as the rest of the team.

IV. Tournament Format

   a. Eight team Regional

         i. To minimize travel cost, leagues closes to one another will play against each. For example (WBA vs PCCL, SCCBL vs SBL and South Bay League vs Premier League)

   b. Regional play – 8 teams at 4 locations

   c. Regional will be best 2-3 with the winner advancing

   d. Host fields will be announced prior the Regional Play

   e. Championship

   f. Four teams advance at a neutral site TBD

   g. Single game elimination – winner advance to Championship Game

   h. Winner of the Championship Game will be crowned Best of the West

V. Dates

   a. Regional Play on July 31 and August 1

   b. Championship Game on Saturday, August 4, 2018

VI. Cost

   a. Field

   b. Umpires

   c. Balls

   d. Water

   e. CCSBA – Webmaster to update website

         i. It’s each league’s responsibility to provide CCSBA webmaster information about the teams playing from your league

   f. Prize – Trophy and tee shirts to the Best of the West Champion

   g. To cover the cost listed above a $1,000 per team tournament fee will be required to play

   h. Each league should pay the tournament fee so the eligible team doesn’t have to pay at the end of the season

VII. Insurance

   a. Teams playing in the Tournament will be required to have liability insurance to cover the players and fans. Coverage to last through the end of the tournament.
